The Corner Stone.
So to Joseph Henry, who without doubt truly established our family, in the days of large families it was essential to have plenty of sons to both continue the family line and help with labour and income, coupled with very high mortality rate the chance of just one son surviving to establish a family for the next 150 years and more must be considered very slim. Nevertheless, this is exactly what Joseph achieved, born 1845 in Bermondsey then in the county of Surrey he married Annie Holland also of Bermondsey in 1866, by the time of his death in 1908, registered St. Olave Bermondsey now in the county of London, he left the legacy which is our family, which is us.

Notes;
Joseph Henry Pettard (1845 to 1908) - A Lighterman by trade following his step-father Robert Johnson.
Annie Holland (1847 to 1928) - Married Joseph Henry Pettard both Bermonsey 1866.
Emma Eliza Pettard (1866 to 1884) - Unmarried deceased age 18/19.
Henry Joseph Pettard (1868 to Unknown) - Appears in both 1871 &1881 census, no other confirmed records.
Fredrick Pettard (1870 to 1945) - Unmarried, living with parents 1901 census, listed dock worker. Deceased Dartford 1945.
Alfred Pettard (1872 to Unknown) - Married Elizabeth Watson 1891, known to be living Walworth 1937. Tin worker by trade.
Elizabeth Watson (1881 to 1899) - Deceased age 28, death registered Romford 1899 along with infant son William.
William Pettard (1875 to 1906) - A Leather Dresser by trade, partner Annie Dillion also a Leather worker by trade.
Annie Dllion (1876 to 1949) - Remarried 1907 to --------- Dryden of Croyden.
Joseph Thomas Pettard (1878 to 1917) - 1901 census listed unmarried living with parents, trade Waterside Docker. More information needed.
Louis Maud Pettard (1882 to 1955) - Married 1909 to William Ford at St Olaves Bermondsey. 1901 census list living with parents, trade Domestic general.
The 1911 census list Fredrick and Joseph Thomas Pettard as still living in the parish of St Olaves Bermondsey. To date the access to the 1911 census date is limited on my behalf, but for sure there can be no doubt that these two names are the offspring of Joseph and Annie (Holland) Pettard.
The same census also list a Henry Pettard, the previous reference to Henry was the 1881 census then age 13 living with parents. With no mention of Henry between 1881 and 1911 we can not be sure that this Henry Pettard listed 1911 census is the offspring of Joseph and Annie. Henry being a common name of the time, also with other Pettard families in London not yet connect to our line we can not make assumption. Clearly a full look at the 1911 census for the area is needed.
I am reminded of discussions some years ago with a Dennis Ford son of Louis Maud (Pettard), he stated that his mother quoted that one of her brothers had committed suicide by jumping off London Bridge. At this point in time I have no proof to uphold such a claim. However, if true it would interest to speculate who. Henry Joseph Pettard could be a possibility, with date of death unknown and no records confirm after the 1881 census. Equally while I quote Joseph Thomas Pettard deceased 1917 I am not sure if I have details of his death. I don't have decease records of Alfred Pettard, but feel this is only a matter of looking in the right place, i.e. Walworth where he was living 1937 age 64, doubt very much that he was the brother Louis Maud was referring too.
